Keep Spot Safe: Tips to protect your dog this 4th of July

Did you know that the 4th of July season coincides with a jump in the number of dogs turned in to local shelters? This is the result of our four-legged friends fleeing from the loud noise of fireworks.

To avoid fido high-tailing it this fireworks season, consider setting man’s best friend up in a secure interior room without windows – such as a basement – with some gentle music turned on.

Thinking of attending a large-scale public fireworks display? Leave your dog at home! The heat and excessive noise at these events can be overwhelming and unsafe for your mutt, not to mention the added risk of losing your pet in the large crowd should it get spooked.

In addition to these tips, the Franklin County Dog Shelter has kindly compiled a list of six things you can do to ensure your dog has a safe and fun 4th. Have fun this Independence Day, but take time consider your dog’s safety and wellbeing, too!
