“F*ck you,” shakeups at central Ohio Sonic Drive-Ins
One central Ohio Sonic Drive-In is permanently closed and staff at three other locations reportedly held walkouts amid an ownership changeover.
The marquee sign at the Whitehall Sonic, located at 3661 E Main St., reads “WE ARE CLOSED!” And, Scioto Post reports Circleville, Lancaster, and Grove city crews all walked out and quit last week.
According to a Sonic America’s Drive-In spokesperson per 10TV, eight Sonic Drive-Ins in Columbus will be under new ownership and management effective Monday, Feb. 25. An affiliate of Sonic is in the process of purchasing them.

Former Circleville Sonic employees were particularly peeved with how they were treated by their new bosses, writing in a letter they posted on the store window “The company has been sold to people that don’t give a f*uck about anyone but themselves.”
A similar letter hangs in the Lancaster Sonic window, calling new ownership “trashy” and “sleezy.”
Christi Woodworth, Vice President of Public Relations for Sonic, issued this statement regarding the eight drive-ins affected by the switch:
“Under new management, guests and the community can look forward to improved service and the famous food, beverages and treats for which SONIC is known. Employees working for the local drive-in can look forward to fun, fast-paced work on which they can build a career, if they choose. Most current employees will have the opportunity to continue to work at the drive-in under the new ownership.”
“The Circleville SONIC Drive-In will re-open on Monday morning under new management. We recognize that changes like this can be difficult for employees to understand and most current employees will have the opportunity to continue working at the drive-in.”
“We look forward to being a part of the community for decades to come and appreciate the opportunity to serve our guests every day.”
