Opera in Columbus

Opera Columbus will be moving forward with 2020-2021 season plans to push opera in more innovative and accessible ways.

“It has been an interesting time for Opera Columbus and arts organizations across the globe.  We will warm up to the season with a few, intimate gatherings before we present our first performance in Jan. with Ryan Speedo Green who shares his personal journey and the power of art,” said Peggy Kriha Dye, General Director + CEO for Opera Columbus.

The 2020-2021 subscription series will feature four performances of operas both new and old. The season begins with a performance by award-winning bass-baritone Ryan Speedo Green, retelling Green’s personal story from being locked up in juvenile detention to his subsequent rise to the Metropolitan Opera. The story will be told with collaboration from Daniel Bergner, author of The New York Times bestseller Sing for Your Life.

“By addressing collaborations, new performance venues and amazing talent, Opera Columbus is making our voices heard during our 39th season,” said Kriha Dye.

A performance of La Bohème, held at 400 West Rich, a 100 year old warehouse beautifully converted into creative arts space, will follow in February and will feature a pre-show gallery.

Next up comes Mozart’s famous opera, Don Giovanni in April, and the season ends with a bang by featuring the Cooper-Bing Competition at Southern Theater in May. The internationally-known vocal competition is a chance for you to cast your vote for young, aspiring opera stars to win the grand prize of $10,000. Opera Columbus will also offer the competition as a virtual experience on their website and on their Facebook page.

Opera Columbus will kick off it’s pre-season plans on Nov. 12 with a cocktail hour at 400 West Rich followed by sneak peek at their new location for their performance of La Bohème.
