You can tell Halloween is approaching, because there are some scary good times to be had with this week’s events calendar.

Oct. 16, Sleepy Hollow Drive-In—The Ohio History Center will be sharing Halloween classics all month long, and this Friday night’s installment will feature “Beetlejuice.” Whatever you do, don’t say it three times. Advance tickets are required. Reservations can be made online. And don’t say we didn’t warn you.

Oct. 16-17, Immersive Theatre Experience: The MessageThe improv troupe from The Nest Theater is staging personalized performances for audiences of one. Those wishing to take advantage of the over-the-phone Halloween experience can purchase tickets at the group’s website.

Oct. 16-17, Scioto Fest 2020—Celebrate the metro parks with kayaking, archery, s’mores, and rock climbing. The event kicks off with a drive-in movie at 7:15 p.m. Friday Night. As of Thursday morning, there were still a few spots available for those who want to register to watch “Black Panther.” 

Oct. 16-18, Daddy Long Legs, the musical—There are two ways to watch this family-friendly production, based on the classic novel by Jean Webster. There’s a streaming option for $10 per streaming device, and there will be performances aired at 8 p.m. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at a drive-in theatre set up at the 100-year-old warehouse turned creative arts-space at 400 W. Rich St. The cost for that is $20 per vehicle. The musical was filmed on location at Asterisk Supper Club in Uptown Westerville, and tickets can be purchased online. Enter the code “Daddy2020” for presale streaming tickets.

Oct. 16-18, 2020 Taste of Bexley—It’s the last two days of The 2020 Taste of Bexley: At Home Edition. No Tickets, no RSVP, no fancy attire. This year, the action takes place via carryout services at all of your favorite Bexley area restaurants. Be sure to mention ‘Taste of Bexley’ at checkout to receive your special or discount! Oct. 16-18 + 21-25, Pumpkins Aglow at Franklin Park Conservatory—View and buy hundreds of beautiful glass pumpkins and autumn-themed items handcrafted by local glass artists during the Pumpkins Aglow Special Engagement, which got already underway. Visit Oct. 16-18 and 21-25 from 5-9 p.m. at Franklin Park Conservatory.

Oct. 16-Nov. 1 BOO AT THE ZOO presented by bubly at Columbus Zoo and Aquarium—Enjoy Halloween candy and snacks at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium’s annual Boo at the Zoo celebration that’s a “merry-not-scary” event that will transform the Zoo into a Halloween wonderland during the weekends of Oct. 16-18 and 23-25; and Oct. 30-Nov. 1. Boo at the Zoo will begin at 5 p.m. on Fridays and 10 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Oct. 16, North Market Night Market—The North Market Night Market from 6 to 9 p.m. is one of the oldest and largest in Central Ohio! Quickie Dips LLC will be selling gourmet blended dry rubs, dips and no-bake dessert mixes. COVID precautions, including wearing face masks, will be observed.

Oct. 17, Doggy Trunk Or Treat & Costume Contest—Pet lovers will gather in the parking garage of Dogtopia from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for some Halloween fun that includes vendors, contests (with prizes), and crafts. Dogs should be leashed, and for those without furry friends, there will be adoptable dogs there to meet.

Oct. 18, Central Ohio Afro Fest—The free event honoring African culture will be held outdoors at the Phenix Banquet Center at 2101 Noe Bixby Rd. rain or shine. From 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. there will be music, food, and a market with crafts by local vendors.

Oct. 21, 79th annual Ohioana Awards—The Ohioana Library recognizes excellence in literature by Ohio authors, and this year’s online ceremony at 7 p.m. will be followed by a roundtable where the writers talk about their creative process.
