January 2020

There are a few things you can count on when it’s January in Columbus: miserable gray skies, exercise classes filled to the brim with folks attempting to make good on their New Year’s resolutions, and (614)’s annual Interview Issue. Thankfully, at least one of these three inevitables is an enjoyable one.

The Interview Issue is our annual moment to take stock of who is making Columbus the city that it is right now. It’s an opportunity to pause and reflect on the stories of our neighbors who are doing incredible things, and consider how their work contributes to the tenor of our town, impacting—in ways large and small—our own lives.

In the issue:

  • THE INTERVIEW ISSUE
  • GALLERY SPACE: KYLA RAFERT
  • SOUNDCHECK WITH SNARLS
  • THE SECRETS OF GHOSTWRITER
  • POPULAR PEPPERONI
  • SWEET THINGS COLONIAL CANDY
  • FROM THE COURT TO THE KITCHEN
  • 614HOME: GEORGIE HOME

February 2020

Is there another holiday that inspires quite so much hand-wringing as Valentine’s Day? We’ve found that people tend to approach it from one extreme or the other: it’s either the holiday that will fundamentally define your relationship that everything hinges on; or it’s just another day on the calendar designed to increase sales of candy and roses that can be comfortably opted-out of. Middle ground is hard to find.

Whether you’re in a relationship, looking for one, or happily single, the love-minded stories in the February issue of 614 Magazine are moving reminders of the different ways we connect and share time together. Is everything “happily ever after”? No—and that’s OK. There are ups and downs, perfect spontaneous moments, and events that go unexpectedly awry even after months of planning. That’s love, and that’s life.

We’re here to give you options, though if you decide to default to “Netflix and chill,” we certainly won’t judge. No matter what, readers, we’re glad you’re here. However you choose to express love this February, we choo-choo-choose you all.

In the issue:

  • Finding and keeping love in Columbus
  • Gallery Space: Phoenix Rising
  • Mic Drop: Elijah Banks
  • Belly up to Lawbird
  • Rooh is rising
  • Fearsome fusion
  • Wheels to work
  • The wedding issue

December 2019

In the final issue of (614) of 2019 (and this decade, for that matter) we take a look back at Columbus over the past ten years. That doesn’t mean that our final issue of the 2010s is backward-looking, though—it’s in fact quite the opposite.

The last ten years in Columbus have been, for the most part, a story of progress and growth; a tale of a city turning assumptions that it was another dot in “flyover country” on their heads. The decade we’re wrapping up put Columbus on an exciting trajectory, and as we assembled some of the highlights for this issue of (614), there was a feeling in the air that the city is just getting started.

In the issue:

  • THE DECADE IN REVIEW
  • GALLERY SPACE: DANIELLE DELEY
  • THE TALL TALE OF THE
    AMAZING GIANTS
  • MERRY RUTH CHRIS-MAS
  • WHAT’S ON TAP AT TAFT’S
  • MAKEUP GETS A NON- TOXIC MAKEOVER
  • CO-WORKING SPACES AND YOU
  • LIGHTING THE HOLIDAY SPIRIT

November 2019

Crunch through those fall leaves with the November issue of 614! In honor of the time of year devoted to giving thanks, this issue highlights the side of the city that is working day-in and day-out to create some social change in their own unique ways.

From century-old establishments with locations across the country, to grassroots with humble beginnings in a garage, and tech start-ups hoping to bridge the gap between volunteers and organizations—these people aren’t doing what has to be done, they are doing what should be done.

Maybe one of these stories grabs your attention and energy to get involved. Perhaps these efforts inspire you to help out elsewhere—that’s great, too. While this month we wanted to cover as many charities and nonprofits as we could, there are numerous other incredible causes in the city that we just couldn’t get to. We’re sure they would love your help in any way, shape, or form.

Whatever form it takes, remember to give thanks, Columbus!

In the issue:

  • DO MORE GOOD IN REAL LIFE
  • GALLERY SPACE: CRAIG CARLISLE
  • NO IFS, ANDS, OR BUTS
    ABOUT AMPERSAND
  • GEMUT BIERGARTEN GROWS ROOTS
  • WHAT’S ON TAP AT CBC
  • ART MOVES FORWARD IN FRANKLINTON
  • CABIN FEVER: WINTER GETAWAYS
