As temperatures skyrocket this summer, one local organization wants to make sure Columbus-area residents of all sizes feel cool by the pool.

Fat Babes Club of Columbus, a social club and nonprofit, is holding a pair of pool parties on July 9 and Aug. 13. The group is devoted to building advocacy, community, visibility, and resources for folx with marginalized bodies by celebrating babes of all sizes, gender identities, racial and ethnic backgrounds, and abilities.

“Our pool parties are gender inclusive and accessible and we often have babes come from out of city and out of state,” founding member Elizabeth Chinn said. She also noted the pool parties have been put on by FBCC since 2019.

According to founding member Elizabeth Chinn, the pool parties will feature a professional DJ, cash bar, food trucks and more. The event will also host a raffle, with prizes donated by Wild Cat Gift and Party, Lacquer Gallery, Otherworld, Studio 35, The Garden and more.

Registration is currently closed for the July 9 event at the Westerville Jaycee Swimming Pool, but the second pool party is slated for Aug. 13. The group also offers a series of different events throughout the year.
