Columbus-area pizza spot sold to new owners after nearly 50 years

Since 1977, Joe and Lana Fegle have owned and operated Capuano’s Pizza House, the oldest pizzeria in Pataskala. 

According to a statement recently posted to the eatery’s Facebook page, however, the Fegles are stepping down after nearly half a century.

“After 45 amazing years at Capuano’s Pizza, Joe and Lana Fegle have decided that it is time for them to step away to travel and spend more time with their children and grandchildren,” the statement reads. “This decision was not an easy one as they will greatly miss the friends they made in the community through Capuano’s.”

Fans of the Pataskala pizzeria don’t need to worry about the popular spot closing, however. The statement notes that the Fegles sold Capuano’s Pizza House to a pair of long-time employees, and the concept will continue to operate under the same name.

“Joe and Lana are excited to announce that the new owners are current employees and best friends for over 20 years, Ashlee Powell and Heather Schmidt. Ashlee has been a Capuano’s employee for 22 years and you probably know her as the girl behind the counter on Friday nights,” the statement reads. “Heather worked at Capuano’s through her high school and college years and has recently returned helping out on Friday nights. Joe and Lana are confident that Heather and Ashlee will continue to carry out the Capuano’s traditions and keep offering the same great pizza you have come to know and love.”
