Longstanding Columbus pizza, sandwich shop announces indefinite hiatus

Last summer, after serving as a sandwich shop under the name Sandman Gourmet for nearly two decades, owner Rich Rores shifted concepts, and his eatery became Sandman Gourmet Pizza.

As of yesterday evening, the eatery has announced an indefinite hiatus, citing the difficulties created by the pandemic.

Sandman Gourmet Pizza is located at 440 Polaris Pkwy. in Westerville.

“We’ve thoroughly enjoyed serving you and bringing gourmet pizza to the Westerville community. While we’re no different than other restaurants in these difficult times, certain operational challenges have made for a tough road ahead in the immediate future,” a statement from Sandman Gourmet posted to its Facebook page reads.

And while the eatery’s closure will go into effect this week, Sandman Gourmet considers the closure a “temporary hiatus”, and vowed to return soon.

The statement also noted that patrons with unused gift cards can receive reimbursement by contacting the eatery.
