This Columbus cartoon exhibit explores the complex emotions of children and teenagers

Being a child or a teenager with complex feelings can be incredibly challenging, and almost isolating for some. Cartoon artist, Raina Telgemeier, is honoring the nuanced emotions that humans face, and her cartoon display is currently an exhibit in the Billy Ireland Cartoon Library and Museum.

Telgemeier’s retrospective artwork exhibit, Facing Feelings, allows viewers to understand emotion and expression in a more visual way, and many children can resonate with the cartoon-like depictions. “Facial expressions can give us a clue into a character’s internal world,” says the Wexner Arts website. “Her work focuses on feelings, and relationships to drive the plot forward, resonating strongly with readers of all ages.

Along with framed cartoons, drawing tables and children’s books are available there, too.

I’m imagining this display to be almost like the Pixar film, Inside Out, but in cartoon form! Learning how to navigate through emotions is something all of us can practice, and it’s never too early to start.

This exhibit lasts until November 19th. The Billy Ireland Cartoon Library & Museum is located at Sullivant Hall, 1813 N. High St. Columbus OH 43210. Raina Telgemeier will also make a special appearance at the Columbus Metropolitan Library on September 30th and October 1st, where she’ll be signing her books.
