New spin-off pizzeria and bar opening on High Street this week

The city’s oldest gay bar is launching an exciting new sister concept later this week.

Slammie’s on High, a spin-off of the ever-popular Slammers Bar + Pizza Kitchen, will hold its grand opening on March 3.

Located at 1607 N. High St. in the University District, Slammie’s will take over the former home of Aracri Pizzeria, which closed in November.

Similar to Aracri Pizzeria and the original Slammer’s, the new concept will focus on pizza. According to co-owner Carson Nethers, Slammie’s will feature the same thin, Columbus-style pies found at Slammers, in addition to a menu of casual American fare and a full bar.

“That’s our goal, to make a continuation of Slammers, that includes the same great tavern-style pizza we’re known for,” said co-owner Carson Nethers, who is also a managing partner of Slammer’s.

Nethers said that the space has undergone a light remodel, including expanding the bar space offered at Arcari Pizzeria, in addition to some of their own cosmetic touches. He added that, in terms of atmosphere, the new space also aims to replicate Slammers.

“You can’t really replace Slammers because of what it is to the community, but it’s our goal to make it a continuation of Slammers,” he said. “Basically, we wanted to open something similar, to be a safe space for students on campus and continue what we offer.”
