New study marks Ohio as one of the country’s least-healthy states; Find out where it ranked

A recent study claims the state of Ohio is near the bottom of the pack when it comes to physical health.

According to a study commissioned by Ozmosi.com, Ohio is the 42nd-healthiest state in the United States, or the 9th most unhealthy state.

The Ozmosi study used data from the CDC to assign a score out of 100 to each state in 12 different categories. The score from each was combined and weighted to generate the overall health score of a state.

Hawaii, which was deemed the country’s healthiest state, received a 74.9 grade. Ohio received a 50.7 grade.

It noted Ohio’s grade came in part due to its high rates of obesity (28.41 percent) and smoking (37.8 percent).

States deemed less-healthy than Ohio included Tennessee, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Alabama, and Louisiana in addition to West Virginia and Kentucky, which ranked as the country’s least-healthy states with a grade of 40.
