Mixing class schedules, supply lists, bus numbers and all the other ingredients that follow teh return of the academic season can be a recipe for stress, but Franklin County Children Services is finding a way to add some fun back into the chaos.

Held August 3, 12 – 3 p.m. in Goodale Park, the FamJam Back to School Bash is an event designed not only to connect families with financial and academic resources, but also to unite them with the surrounding Columbus community.

The event will feature free school supplies, free food, and music. There will also be activities for all ages including, but not limited to, a bounce park, hula-hoop/limbo/jump-rope contests, dog shows, face paint and a designated bubble zone.

Resource tents will also be present to help families find schools, classes, day-cares and programs. Rent–assistance, family financial help and public resources will also be available.

Special gifts await those who arrive at the event early – such as free supplies (2 per family) for the first 700 individuals, pizza for the first 1500, Tim Hortons for the first 200, C. Krugers cookie for the first 200 and a VIP bag for the first 150.

While the festivities are free, online registration is highly encouraged as only a limited number of supplies and spots are available. Pre-registration features no charge, but a $2 fee is required for those choosing to register at the event’s entrance.

Depending on when and what you register for, arrival times for the event may differ amongst families. More information about the event and how to register can be found on the event website.
