Moving parts, music and sound effects are just some of the complementary aspects that will bring the several lantern displays to life. Unique entertainment and performances will also take place each night, including acrobatics, Kung-Fu, and music.

“Through vibrant displays and cultural performances, the Columbus Zoo Lantern Festival celebrates the rich tapestry of Asian Cultures, inviting the Central Ohio community and beyond to immerse themselves in a world of light, color, and tradition,” said George Zhao, president of Hanart Culture, and producer of the event.

Although the event is primarily for a night of sight-seeing, cultural celebrations,  a closer look provides insight and history into the evolution of lantern art.

With origins tracing back to the Han Dynasty, lanterns have since evolved and changed alongside modern society. When experiencing the LED light displays – patrons are viewing an important aspect of Asian culture, past and present.

“We’re excited to bring this extraordinary event to our community,” Columbus Zoo and Aquarium President and CEO, Tom Schmid, said. “The Lantern Festival is a modern take on an ancient tradition, and we are honored to showcase the incredible artistry and cultural richness of Asia. Our guests will have the unique opportunity to see these Lanterns and enjoy the vibrant entertainment and cultural experiences.”

Ticketing for the event is separate from regular Columbus Zoo admission, however members can receive discounted prices. More about the event and how to buy tickets can be found on the Zoo’s official website.
