After abruptly shuttering 4 Central Ohio locations this year, national pizza chain could be closing over a hundred more
A couple of months ago, some Central Ohio residents called their nearest pizza shop to grab some pies for a Friday night in, only to find the line dead.
Pizza Hut abruptly closed four locations here:
- 1076 Parsons Ave., Columbus
- 5837 Sawmill Road, Dublin
- 3643 S. High St., Obetz
- 4514 Kenny Road, Upper Arlington
And since, the pizza chain has closed 15 other locations throughout Indiana, and another 129 could be following amid the ongoing lawsuit.
Pizza Hut first opened all the way back in 1958, with many franchise groups helping the company expand nationally and even internationally.

However, a couple of months ago, the franchise company EYM Group filed for bankruptcy with the Eastern District of Texas, owing $2.25 million to the Pizza Hut directly and another $21 million to Manufacturers Bank. Daily Mail said that EYM founder Eduardo Diaz filed for bankruptcy protection after Pizza Hut sued him for not paying bills, but EYM claimed that Pizza Hut was actually the one to blame.
In the court documents, EYM said, “In recent years, the best Pizza Hut managed to do is change the cheese in its stuffed crust from mozzarella to cheddar or trot out an occasional, ill-fated appetizer like the Philly steak melt.” The group cited outdated trends and technology as a reason Pizza Hut’s sales were down.
Pizza Hut established dates for EYM Group to pay back its debts in each state, but with every deadline they missed, Pizza Hut responded by abruptly closing the EYM-operated locations. Strangely enough, the four locations in Central Ohio that were closed weren’t owned by EYM Group.
Now, it’s been revealed that another 127 stores across Illinois, Georgia, South Carolina, and Wisconsin could be facing a shutdown as well.
