Columbus man sentenced to federal prison for robbing mail carrier with Glock 19

A local man was sentenced to seven years in federal prison for robbing a United States Postal Service (USPS) mail carrier at gunpoint.

Columbus man Anthony “A.J.” Williams, 20, was sentenced to 84 months and one day in federal prison on Dec. 12.

According to court documents, Williams robbed a USPS mail carrier delivering mail on Michigan Avenue on Nov. 9, 2022. He borrowed a Glock 19 from a co-conspirator and was driven to the robbery site by another co-conspirator.

Williams took the postal keys from the carrier and sent photos of the stolen keys to another individual who was orchestrating the crime.

The two also worked together to plan a postal robbery for Christmas Eve 2022.

“Today’s sentencing shows our continued commitment to holding accountable individuals who break the law in relation to mail theft,” said U.S. Attorney Kenneth L. Parker in a press release. “Our investigations and prosecutions will be vigorous, and the end results will be significant. Williams’s seven-year prison sentence is just one example of that.”
