Columbus suburb launches Little Sled Library
As an advocate of reading and an enormous fan of libraries myself, the Little Free Library program is one I wholeheartedly stand behind.
But if we’re being honest, sledding is more fun.
The city of Worthington has recently combined these two things with their Little Sled Library (LSL). Located at the Olentangy Parklands sledding hill, the LSL offers a handful of totally free sleds that can be used by anyone wanting to take a turn zooming down the Parklands’ hill.

According to Worthington Parks & Recreation coordinator Jeremy Dean, this is the first year for the unique program. It debuted on Jan. 3.
“First and foremost, the Little Sled Library brings fun! In a short period of time, we have had hundreds of engagements on our social media posts with its announcement and brought many users to our beautiful Olentangy Parklands facility,” Dean told 614Now. “Lots of people have a sled that is sitting unused at home because their children have grown up, but now here is a way for them to pass on the fun to someone else.”
Similar to the format of Little Free Library stations, the LSL operates on donated sleds, so if you have a functional one you don’t use, consider putting it to good use. You can contact Dean at Jeremy.dean@worthington.org if you’d like to donate a sled.
