Auditor investigating phony Franklin County checks

The Franklin County Auditor’s office is investigating a case of phony checks.

Auditor Clarence Mingo says that two different checks, both appearing to be from accounts belonging to the county, were passed to businesses. In once case, someone tried to use a fraudulent check for more than $192,000 to purchase farming equipment. The business owner became suspicious and, when they followed up, learned that the check was no good.

Mingo is warning other businesses and individuals to be aware of the scheme. If someone comes across another concerning check or has any questions (or information on the case), they are advised to call his office at 614-525-7520.  (jj)
