Update: Goodbye, West Side Target

Target has announced plans to close the doors on its West Side store (3720 Soldano Blvd). The retailer’s lease run through November 1st and the store will close near that time.
The closing continues a chain of other business folds on that side of town since the arrival of the Hollywood Casino in 2012. Not that the casino is the reason why these businesses are going down, but Hollywood arrived with lots of promise. Casino backers had told stories of gamblers helping the area to bounce back and revitalize. That has clearly not been the case. Hobby Lobby and Kohl’s have left the neighborhood…and now Target.
Neighbors say they hope to have a chance to work with the property holder to fill the space in short order. Otherwise, it’ll be one more large hollow space on the city’s West Side. (jj)
