JT Update: 180-day license suspension, $400 fine
Buckeye QB JT Barrett appeared in court this morning to answer to charges related to his recent OVI arrest. The 20-year-old Buckeye football star was stopped by Columbus Police near campus in the early hours of October 31st. His blood-alcohol content was measured at .099 or nearly five times the legal limit for someone his age.
Barrett entered a guilty plea to a misdemeanor charge of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.
The Columbus Dispatch reports that Municipal Court Judge H. William Pollitt Jr. suspended Barrett’s driver’s license for 180 days, fined him $400 and ordered him to attend a 3-day alcohol education program.
In court this morning, JT offered apologies to the football program and to fans of Ohio State.
Barrett’s arrest resulted in a one-game suspension from play. (He missed this past Saturday’s match-up with Minnesota.) On Monday, coach Urban Meyer said that if Barrett performs well in practices this week, he will start in this Saturday’s game vs Illinois. (jj)
