Longtime Columbus reporter Mike Bowersock passes away at 56

Former NBC4 (WCMH) reporter Mike Bowersock died suddenly Sunday night surrounded by friends and family. He was 56.

A widely honored and respected journalist, Bowersock was honored with four Emmys in his career, five awards from The Associated Press, two from the Society of Professional Journalists, and he was named Best Street Reporter by the Free Press in 2000.

Renowned for his versatile reporting, Bowersock was able to cover news with a sense of humor, or with the seriousness a story required.

Though Bowersock’s reporting was focused largely on Columbus, he also travelled overseas during the Gulf War, and during the War in Afghanistan.

An outpouring of emotion has been felt on Twitter and other social media in the wake of Bowersock’s death, lauding his personality, his gentlemanly demeanor and his reporting skills.
