Would-be shooters arrested after announcing plans on social media

It’s amazing how the stupidity of criminals is continually surprising, but this is a case of stupidity that’s particularly startling.

Two Columbus men are facing felony charges after broadcasting a live video where they bragged about plans to shoot up North Linden with a high-powered rifle.

Really guys? What did you think would happen? What was the goal, exactly?

The goal, it turns out, was to get a high number of views on the app Periscope. In the video, the two men said they would start shooting once they reached 100 viewers.

Is vanity really worth violence?

Apparently it’s worth jail time, since Yusuf Suliman and Damon Rosmond, both 20, were indicted on five felonies, including endangering children and tampering with evidence.

The count of endangering children comes from a moment in the video where a toddler is handed the AR-15 rifle.

After exceeding 100 viewers, the pair got in a car and started to drive, when a concerned viewer contacted police.

Because you can see the location of a broadcaster on Periscope, police were able to easily track down the two men.
