That was quick — Ohio rejects abortion-as-murder ballot
Our Attorney General Mike DeWine rejected that outrageous abortion-as-murder bill, that would’ve charged women and doctors with aggravated murder if they performed an abortion — this could lead to a 15 year prison sentence.
The petition was submitted to DeWine on the 2nd of September and actually met the 1,000 signatures for the issue to proceed but, the Attorney General’s office only found that 842 signatures were valid according to The Dispatch.
The three individuals that concocted this bill have no plans on stopping — “‘Quit’ is not in our vocabulary,” Anthony Dipane said, one of the members of the group. They are not connected with Right to Life or any other anti-abortion rights groups.
According to the group they are “just three Christians in Ohio. We saw that since Roe v. Wade (the 1973 decision legalizing abortion) no one had proposed a ballot issue saying you can’t murder babies.”
You really can’t argue with that kind of logic. Although, it isn’t entirely true — Oklahoma had a similar ballot issue earlier this year, that similarly was looking to criminalize abortion. It was vetoed by the Governor after making it’s way through Oklahoma legislators.
They’ll have to go back to collecting signatures, how many? Well…they’ll have to collect a new 1,000 signatures to make it back to DeWine and then afterwards will need to collect 305,591 to be on the 2017 November Ballot.
