“A devastatingly real series,” Showtime exposes Cbus opioid epidemic
If the rest of the state, country, and world aren’t aware of the opioid epidemic in central Ohio, they certainly will after they see the new Showtime documentary series. “The Trade,” referred to as “a devastatingly real series” takes viewers from the poppy fields in Mexico to Columbus homes where people’s lives are unraveling from addiction.
10TV reports enough deadly fentanyl/carfentanyl was seized in Ohio last year to kill every resident in the state five times in a row. Federal resources to fight drug hustling have ramped up from 25 percent to 50 percent as a result.
Franklin County Deputy Chief Rick Minerd and Homeland Security Investigations Special Agent In Charge, Steve Francis who are both featured in the documentary say the key to curbing the crisis is collaboration—be it partnership with educators, treatment and recovery centers, ERs, and support groups.
The overdose death toll in Ohio is expected to climb in 2018.
“The Trade” airs Fridays at 9pm ET/PT on Showtime.
