OSU study finds women can be too smart for the workplace
So, you worked hard in college and graduated with a 4.0, good for you!
Oooh…you’re a woman…never mind.
A new study by an Ohio State researcher found that if two math majors with the same GPA apply for the same job, males are twice as likely to be contacted by the employer than women.
The researcher said women who flourish in math and other male-dominant fields may experience bias because they’re violating gender norms, reports Columbus Business First. The researcher also added that women who are “intelligent enough” are better off in the workforce than women who excelled in academia.
Punished for working hard. Isn’t that the pits.
The findings are based on an experiment using 2,106 fake application with real email addresses, resumes, and managers.
