A Worthington man has died after trying to rescue his dog from the Olentangy River on Thursday.
Joseph Crites (67) was walking his dog by the low head dam of the Olentangy River, north of Antrim park, when his dog ran into the river.
A witness saw Crites jump in after the dog but was pulled under the water soon after.
Rescue crews were able to pull Crites out of the river just before noon and rushed him to Riverside hospital.
He was pronounced dead thirty minutes later, reports Fox 28.
Crites’ dog was able to get out of the water on his own and has been returned to the family.
A GoFundMe has been started to benefit Crites’ wife and two children.
