Slow down! Cops cracking down on school zone speeders
Police are cracking down on drivers who don’t believe school zone speed limits apply to them.
So far this school year, 760 speeding tickets have been issued to drivers making commutes dangerous for students and their guardians.
10TV reports two zones have emerged as the most dangerous in Columbus: Weiland Elementary School off East 7th Avenue and All Saints Academy along Livingston Avenue. Fifty-one speeding tickets were issued in each of the zones in January alone.

Walnut Ridge High School, Woodward Park Middle School, and Woodcrest Elementary School are also areas where Columbus police are dedicating units to catch speeders.
A minor misdemeanor speeding offense in Ohio carries a maximum possible penalty of $150 plus court costs. If you are going above 35 mph in a school zone when children are on recess or coming or going from school, then you may be charged with a fourth-degree misdemeanor punishable with up to 30 days in jail and a fine of up to $250.
Drivers, be aware of the 20mph speed limit through school zones. Speeding is never worth risking the life of a child.
