Thursday afternoon, officers were flagged down on the south side of Columbus and were told by a man that he thought his sister was inside a drug house doing heroin. The officers approached the home, one knocking on the back door. The door opened, but then immediately closed and trapped the officer’s arm in the door. CPD has reported that the person then pushed his weight into the door to keep the officer’s arm pinned and after giving multiple warnings, the officer shot through the door and a man and a woman were hit. Both were taken to Grant Medical Center and are in stable condition. The officer was also treated and released.
The suspect, Brian Bates has been charged with one count of felony assault on a police officer.
