Glen is one of the newest furry additions to the Columbus Zoo and he arrived Nov. 4. He is a southern hairy-nosed wombat and is rarely seen in zoos within the states and only five other zoos have the animal as well. Beginning Wednesday Glen can be seen at Bob and Evelyn’s Roadhouse nocturnal building at the Zoo’s Australia and the Islands region. Getting the little wombat though was a long process. Wombats are losing their natural habitat in Australia because of both drought and development and to combat the the loss of the animal, Australia has paired up with zoos to the protect them. Getting through that process though isn’t easy it for the Columbus Zoo it has been about 12 years in the making.
