With Labor Day weekend coming up, events are starting to return to the Columbus calendar, and right now there are a lot of opportunities to do some good while having a good time. 

Sept. 4, Fitness Yoga on the Square—Fitness enthusiasts can enjoy socially distanced, outdoor yoga at Easton Town Center at 8:30 a.m. 

Sept. 4-Sept. 10, Free Comic Book Summer—Laughing Ogre on High Street is one of several comic book stores participating in Free Comic Book summer. Publishers are making around six new titles available every week, so check with the store before heading over and grabbing the free merch.

Sept. 4, Fridays At Phenix: Vernon Hairston Intimate Concert—The talented musician comes to the Apollo Lounge at 2101 Noe Bixby Rd. in Columbus.

Sept. 5 Short North Gallery Hop—The Short North Gallery Hop is still alive and well, though being officially promoted and supported virtually. Watch the Short North Arts District (SNAD) Instagram feed starting at 1 p.m. to see which businesses have special deals. From there, go visit the Short North yourself and enjoy strolling the streets. Sept. 5-7 WAG! Wilderness Walk—Those wanting to support pet parents and the animals in their care can do so by paying $28 to register in this self-guided, socially distanced dog walk at any of central Ohio’s 19 Metro Parks. After registering online, pick a park, a trail, and enjoy the fresh Labor Weekend air. All proceeds will benefit the Columbus Humane Pet Food Assistance Program. 

Sept. 6 Columbus Crew vs. FC Cincinnati—Columbus has only given up two goals over the first nine games of the season. They look to continue the stellar defensive play against their in-state rival Sunday, and 1,500 fans will be allowed into MAPFRE Stadium for the contest.

Every Tuesday and Friday (Sept. 7 & 11), Pearl Market—The Pearl Market is a farmer’s market full of fresh foods and open through Oct. 16, 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., 31 E. Gay St Columbus, OH 43215. Check out the website for in-person COVID-19 guidelines or to order online at pearlmarket.org.

Sept. 10, Nocterra Run Club—Runners of all abilities (which includes those walking) are meeting Thursdays outside of Columbus Running Company in Powell at 6:15 p.m. to join fellow fitness enthusiasts to travel the couple miles to the finish line at Nocterra, where they can refresh with a beer.

Sept. 10, Franklin Park Conservatory Vulnerable Population Hours—For those needing to take special precautions as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens opens at 9 a.m. on Thursdays for guests with high-risk considerations, such as seniors or people with compromised immune systems. General admission visitors can enter starting at 10 a.m. Tickets should be reserved prior to a visit and can be purchased online.

Sept. 10 Red Cross Blood Drive—The American Red Cross will be at Easton Town Center to take lifesaving donations from healthy individuals. For an appointment, visit redcrossblood.org or call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767).

Sept. 10 ProMusica SummerFEST (Dublin)—A 6:00 p.m. show at Dublin’s Coffman Park will feature George Walker’s “Lyric”, Mozart’s Divertimento K. 136 “Salzburg”, Max Richter’s “On the Nature of Daylight”, and Mozart’s “Eine Kleine Nachtmusik”. Walker is the first African American to have won the Pulitzer Prize in music.

Sept. 11 ProMusica SummerFEST (Gahanna)—For those who missed the previous night’s event in Dublin, it’s being staged again at 7:00 p.m. at Headley Park Drive-In in Gahanna.
