Update- More details have been released about the night OSU student Heather Campbell was killed.
According to The Lantern, Campbell and her boyfriend Kyle Lafferty moved in together in August after eight months of dating. Lafferty had just graduated from a prestigious naval engineering school.
It had been over 24 hours since Campbell’s best friend had heard from her which raised some concern. Upon entry of the couple’s apartment, the friend found Campbell and Lafferty’s bodies on the floor.
Police believe Lafferty used a handgun to shoot Campbell and then turned it on himself.
A neighbor across the hall suspected something was off when the couple’s new golden retriever puppy was whimpering, not barking.
Police were also called to the couple’s apartment the night before after a neighborhood called in concerned about extreme arguing followed by three gunshots. Police showed up soon after the call, knocked on the door, then left after they didn’t receive an answer.
The police incident report listed Lafferty as a “habitual offender.”
