Last month, Alya Hannah came home with her daughter Baeleigh and found her ex-boyfriend, Jason Yarhouse, waiting inside. Yarhouse had broken into her house and started attacking her with a hatchet. Hannah told Baeleigh to run; her daughter ran out of the house and went next door where a neighbor called the police. Yarhouse then fled after the neighbor yelled that police were coming.
Hannah says her daughter is the reason she’s still alive. And that heroism isn’t going unnoticed. The Hilliard Police are honoring Baeleigh at an event this Wednesday (5/20) at 3PM. (deb)

Hilliard mom says young daughter saved her from hatchet attack
Alya Hannah recently learned some troubling things about her boyfriend (including an alleged criminal past). So, she broke things off with him. Early Tuesday afternoon, Alya says that she and her 4 year-old daughter came home and found the ex (Jason Yarhouse) waiting in the little girl’s bedroom with zip ties, a hatchet and a machete. Alya sent the little girl to run for safety as Yarhouse began to attack. The child ran to a neighbor’s house and police were dispatched. Yarhouse was arrested after leaving the home. The Hilliard mom was treated for deep cuts to her face and skull. She credits her survival to Yarhouse knowing that the child would send help. (jj)
*Update: Bond for Yarhouse has now been set at $1.25 million.
