Crazy or correct? Developers see Short North parking demand lessening
The good news is a new five-story mixed-use development breaking ground in the Short North will have parking. The interesting news is the parking isn’t meant to be permanent.
Wood Cos. and Schiff Capital Group got the OK to begin work on a $15 million project on the northeast corner of Lincoln and Pearl streets after ironing out the parking situation with the city of Columbus. There will be a 260-space parking garage, 125 of which will be reserved for public use, reports Columbus Business First.
But the developers forecast a decrease in parking demand in the future so they’ve designed the garage to be easily converted into office, retail, or residential space if/when that time comes. According to Columbus Navigator, the developers believe people will be commuting in different ways moving forward, therefore lessening the need for parking.
Is this a realistic projection or do you see the demand for parking in the Short North continuing to rise?
The development is also slated to encapsulate a two-floor restaurant and 16 apartments. Wood Cos. and Schiff Capital Group are also responsible for a nearby development at 711 North High.
