Plans for new market, CBC taproom, apartments wouldn’t demolish local history

We’ve got a North Market and before long, we could also have an East Market.

Connect Realty’s plan for a “Trolley District” on the Near East Side with a market, taproom, and apartment complex are beginning to take shape.

Columbus Business First reports the $30 million project aims to restore the six former trolley barns at 1600 Oak St. and transform them into a new destination for locals.

A taproom and restaurant for Columbus Brewing Co. would be the anchor tenant at the development.

The 19-stall market would also be a major attraction for East Market.

Connect Realty envision six tenants offering prepared foods plus a green grocer.

Butcher & Grocer and Ray Ray’s Hog Pit already have dibs on spots.

DeHays of Connect Realty told Columbus Business First it would be more incubator style than the North Market.

The apartment would be three stories and 102 units.

Rent for a one bedroom would be $850 to $1,000 while two-bedroom units would cost $1,300 to $1,400 per month.

About 178 parking spaces will be provided on site.

The first sketches have been presented to the Near East Side Commission.

DeHays told Columbus Business First that he would like to see work begin as early as December. The market is projected to take about a year to complete where as the apartments would take about two.
