The nation is finally starting to realize what a bang-up city Columbus, Forbes being the most recent.

“The vibrant Midwestern city is gaining new attractions each month, from charming cafes and stylish cocktail palaces to world-class art exhibitions,” she wrote.

Though we can think of about 1 million, Ramierz zeroed in on five reasons travelers should consider visiting Columbus in the fall.

Mickalene Thomas at the Wexner Center for the Arts

The Wexner Center for the Arts hosts an exhibition by celebrated multi-disciplinary artist Mickalene Thomas. Titled “I Can’t See You Without Me,” the multi-room exhibition features over 50 works, including large scale collages, paintings and immersive installations.”

The Pizzuti Collection

The Pizzuti Collection has three exhibitions currently on view, including the whimsical furniture design exhibition ‘When Attitudes Become Chairs.’ On view through Jan. 20, the exhibition explores how the humble chair can be re-imagined to suit a full spectrum of uses and materials, including stuffed animals, bubble wrap and even the discarded tissue paper from a fashion designer’s fabric.”

She also mentioned the exhibits “Take Up Space,” calling it a “fresh look at abstract art” and “For Freedoms,” saying it features “politically-resonant work meant to encourage discourse and action.”

The National Veterans Memorial and Museum

“Beginning with the Revolutionary War, and going through contemporary times, the museum touches on the common threads in military life through a series of multi-media and immersive exhibits. Upstairs, in a space marked for reflection, windows are colored like campaign ribbons, and an interactive mirror installation illustrates how service has an infinite impact.”

The North Market

“From small-batch ice cream and doughnuts to Vietnamese dishes, the North Market offers one-stop eating and shopping from some of Columbus’s most popular food vendors.”

Ramierz singled out Spices, Ltd., “which offers a dizzying inventory of pre-packaged spices and salts.”

The Kitchen at Watershed Distillery

“Come for the distillery tour, stay for elegant drinks. Watershed Distillery makes several spirits, such as Four Peel Gin, that you’ll find in craft cocktail bars around the city.”

Ramierz specifically like the award-winning Guild Series Gin, the versatility of the kitchen and bar menus, and seasonal offerings.
