“One of nature’s rarest,” stinkiest moments happening at OSU greenhouse

Do you like huge flowers and the smell of rotting flesh? Then you’ll love what’s going on at Ohio State University.

OSU’s Biological Sciences Greenhouse must really love rarity or the smell of Titan Arum or “Corpse Flower,” because they’ve got two which were both predicted to bloom any minute!

“The Biological Sciences Greenhouse at Ohio State is awaiting one of nature’s rarest moments — the blooming of a titan arum, one of the world’s largest flowers,” wrote OSU on Facebook on Thursday, July 12.

Both flowers are taking their good ol’ time to blossom but you can keep an eye on the live feed so you don’t miss a beat.

The bloom of the Titan Arum is typically between 6 and 8 feet tall (the largest on record was just over 10 feet tall) and it emits a foul odor of rotting flesh, thus the name corpse flower, according to an FAQ on OSU’s website.
