614 Donut Trail: Schneiders Bakery
Schneiders Bakery

Glazed Round
While glazed donuts are usually pretty run of the mill for me, there’s something to be said about Schneider’s plain ol’ glazed donut washed back with a cup of black coffee.
Glazed Twist
Maybe I’m just a sucker for aesthetics, but somehow the twisted donut tastes slightly better than the glazed. *shrugs shoulders*
Sugared Twists
The donut tastes good, but it’s a little dry. If I was a police officer in a 1990s sitcom, this would be the donut I eat.
Iced Cake (Chocolate or White Iced)
Bonus points for an insanely moist cakenut (did I just create a word?), minus points for sprinkles.
Powdered or Cinnamon Cake
Remember those bags of cinnamon sugar donuts you’d eat with your friends? You’d try to eat as many as you can without licking the cinnamon sugar off your lips—remember?! This donut gave me so much nostalgia. And it’s delicious.
Glazed Buttermilk Stick
Not gonna lie, I went into this thinking, “Another glazed donut in a different form?” and walked away eating the entire thing. It must be a fact of life that buttermilk can make anything better.
Plain Cake
I could put down the iced cake donut because the icing and frosting really kept the entire donut moist, and I think that’s what’s holding me back from wanting a second bite of this plain cake donut.

Blueberry Cake with Glaze — Editor’s Pick!
Sometimes you just see the list of donuts you are about to devour and know there’s a clear cut winner before your first bite. It’s this one. This is the donut you want. This is the donut you need. This is the donut I’m not sharing with anyone.
Chocolate Iced Yeast Raised — Honorable Mention!
And just as I finish my last bite of the blueberry cake with glaze, I indulge into the chocolate iced yeast raised and realize we might have a tie. Not too chocolatey, perfectly sweet, and compliments a cup of coffee like you can’t even imagine.
Honey Buns (Glazed Cinnamon Bun)
I have a very strong bond with Honey Buns after many late night gas station runs in college so my expectations for this donut were high. And they were exceeded. If you tossed this donut in the microwave with a little butter, you’d be in Midwesternite heaven, ya’ll.
White or Chocolate Frosted Cake with Peanuts or Sprinkles
Usually I’m not a huge fan of nuts on my sweets (I’m trying to make my sweet tooth happy, not get my summer bod 2K18 whipped up), but the peanuts on this actually add a hint of saltiness to the very sweet cake donut and it was a happy marriage of two separate flavor worlds in my mouth.
Davy Crockett (Cinn. Twist w/ Maple Icing)
Speaking of flavor marriages that make my mouth happy, cinnamon and maple! This is a big and dense donut that you could probably share with someone, but that just sounds like less donut for you to me.
Filled Long Johns (Raspberry, Lemon, or Custard)
Three part review here: lemon filled donuts are pretty good, but I definitely can’t eat more than a half of one. Raspberry filled donuts are really good, but I have this problem where I can’t stop shoveling them in my face. And lastly, 23 years of living and I still haven’t met a custard filled donut I like. It’s not you, it’s me.
Vanilla Cream Filled (Powdered Sugar Long John, Round Chocolate Iced or Round Maple Iced)
Another three part review, but this time with a reminder! Cream filled donuts kinda freak me out, but that didn’t stop me from digging in anyway. I was pleasantly surprised with the powdered sugar long john; the extra powdered sugar on the top helped distract me from the cream filling. The round chocolate iced created an interesting flavor when the chocolate icing and peanuts on top mixed with the cream filling giving a mix of a chocolate/peanut butter cream flavor. The round maple iced definitely is something you’re gonna want to share with someone, that bad Johnny is a beast to tackle alone.
