Columbus Vice put under FBI corruption unit microscope

Columbus Police Chief Kim Jacobs has officially transferred the investigation of the vice unit over to the FBI’s Public Corruption Task Force.

“Recent high profile incidents have brought forward a variety of allegations against the Vice Section via social media postings and other resources,” said a release.

These “high profile incidents” are referring to the arrest of adult film star Stormy Daniels in July and more recently, the August shooting of 23-year-old Donna Castleberry by undercover vice Officer Andrew Mitchell.

A potentially criminal complaint was filed against Mitchell before the shooting which caused him to be relieved of his duty Wednesday, reports Columbus Dispatch. He is a 30-year veteran of the division.

Normal operations of the vice unit were suspended in early September after these two incidents and will remain that way until issues are resolved.

Details of the FBI investigation will not be released to the public, however the Division will announce when vice operations resume.

The release then urges people with knowledge of criminal activity inside Columbus Police Vice to call the investigation tip line at (614) 849-1777.
