Can hellish Short North parking be eradicated with these 2 new initiatives?

Short North executives are attempting to lure customers back to the popular but crowded neighborhood with two different parking discounts.

Will it work?

The parking problem in the Short North is undeniable—especially during all the streetscape construction—but the Short North Alliance is hoping that by allowing discounted spots in parking garages and offering Lyft codes, customers will begin to migrate back.

Columbus Business First reports the organization is working with three different parking garages near High Street to pilot a $1 for an hour system to encourage people to shop at local businesses. This program is modeled after North Market’s one-hour parking validation.

The Short North Alliance is also teaming up with Lyft to to offer $5 off the ride-sharing service to and from the Short North for the first 5,000 people.

Additionally, customers who use Lyft to get to the neighborhood will qualify for a 10 percent discount of purchases made at participating businesses from April 9 through October 31.

Lyft is footing the bill for this initiative while Smart Columbus is helping get it off the ground.

If the discounted parking and Lyft rides are successful, they will be made permanent.

So what do you think, will these initiatives eradicate the parking congestion and rejuvenate the Short North?
