Pregnant, drunk, ICU: Scooter injury report
The new electric scooter craze has officially taken hold of Columbus but it turns out not even Birds can outfly injuries.
The Dispatch reports 12 scooter-related injuries have been recorded in the two weeks beginning August 28, most of them happening in the downtown area.
About a third were found to be intoxicated.
Those injuries included an eight-months pregnant woman falling on her belly and wrist, a broken collarbone, some fractured ribs and a trip to the intensive care unit for bleeding in the skull.

Sources from The Dispatch say the number of scooter injuries in those two weeks is comparable to the number of bicycle and pedestrian injuries seen in a month’s time.
They add that when wearing a helmet, an electric scooter is likely no more dangerous than a bike.
Lime was giving away helmets Downtown on Friday, reports The Dispatch.
Columbus issued new scooter regulations last week including placing a ban on riding on the sidewalks.
If passed, new City Council legislation would make riding scooters on the sidewalk a minor misdemeanor.
