R2D2 could take over half of Ohio jobs

Job automation has become a subtle presence in the modern workplace but in Ohio’s future, it may become more dominant. According to a study done by University of Oxford, nearly half of Ohio jobs will likely be automated in the not-so-distant feature. Cashiers, truck drivers, fast-food workers, waitresses, secretaries, and warehouse laborers are at the highest risk of being nudge out by Mr. Roboto, reports The Dispatch.

The 2013 study looked at 702 jobs and rated them from zero to one, zero meaning they could not be automated and one meaning they can certainly be automated. Out of those 702 jobs, 297 rated 0.7 or higher which translates into a 70 percent chance the jobs won’t require human labor.

In 2016, these jobs rated 0.7 or higher translated into nearly $83.6 billion in average pay.

The Dispatch reports the jobs with the lowest risk of being automated are teachers, nurses, computer administrators, pharmacists, police officers, firefighters, home health aides, child-care workers, and electricians.
