Dublin graduate found dead in Ohio University fraternity annex

A Dublin family is mourning the death of their 18-year-old son a few short months after sending him away to college.

Collin L. Wiant, a first-year student at Ohio University, was found unresponsive in an apartment at 45 Mill St.—an unofficial annex of the fraternity Sigma Pi’s Epsilon—around 3am.

He was later pronounced dead at an Athens hospital.

Police are still investigating the cause of his death.

Ohio University ordered the immediate shutdown of all Sigma Pi Epsilon activities.

In a letter sent to the fraternity’s local chapter and national organization, per This Week News, OU’s Office of Community Standards and Student Responsibility director, Martha Compton, received information that Sigma Pi had engaged in conduct that put the health and safety of its members at risk.

Wiant, who recently had pledged to the Epsilon chapter of Sigma Pi, graduated from Saint Charles Preparatory School in 2018 where he was an honor roll student, a member of the basketball team, a member of the St. Charles Choir, and team manager for the St. Charles soccer team.

Here is an insight into Wiant’s character and personality according to his obituary:

“Collin will be remembered by all those he encountered by his room changing smile, his devotion to his family and friends, along with a personality that was genuine and pure. He was truly a light to all around him, bringing joy with him everywhere he went. Collin’s impact on everything he touched cannot be measured. Collin brought an energy that was infectious, with a contagious laugh that would brighten any day. He was extremely intelligent and witty, to go along with his playful and fun personality. Above all, he was loving and loyal with those closest to him and would drop anything to cheer you up. He always fought for the underdog and was there for anyone who he felt needed a friend.”
