Young #SaveTheCrew-ers speak out in UA Elementary newspaper

You don’t have to be old enough to drive—or even old enough to walk independently to gym class—to support the #SaveTheCrew movement.

Some young, curious, and passionate pupils at Upper Arlington’s Barrington Elementary have taken to the school newspaper to explore the Columbus Crew SC’s potential relocation to Austin. These kids don’t waste time beating around the bush. They dish you the facts, they ask straight-forward questions, and give point blank answers. And as it turns out, they are willing to do whatever it takes to #SaveTheCrew.

After the important issue of candy is covered, the young journalist launches into an overview of the Crew relocation drama. Then an interview ensues.

Ethan: “What is your opinion on the Crew moving to Austin, Texas?

Jack: “I absolutely hate it and they should stay. It is sad that they might be moving.”

Ethan: “What is your opinion on building a new stadium?”

Jack: “I think whatever it takes to save the Crew I’ll go with it.”

We need to find you a megaphone and a group of people to lead, Jack.

Columbus Zoo proudly announces birth of new African lion pride members

A new pride of lions is wondering the grounds at the Columbus Zoo! Three African lion cubs were born on August 16 and 17.

This is the first litter for four-year-old Naomi, who is attentive to the healthy cubs, according to Heart of Africa animal care teams.

Her pregnancy was a surprise since the cub’s sire, Tomo, underwent a vasectomy in 2018 because his genes are strongly represented within the African Lion Species Survival Program population. Tomo was humanely euthanized in May at the age of 15 after his quality of life rapidly diminished due to age-related issues.

Since female cubs stay with their birth pride, African lions in their native ranges are known at times to mate with their own offspring if another male has not been able to successfully establish himself as the new leader of the pride.

“We are committed to the work the Columbus Zoo is doing to protect lions in Africa, as well as inspiring our guests to join us in taking action to help lions and other species. We are very grateful for their support of the Zoo as it is also benefiting important conservation initiatives and having a direct impact on saving wildlife in their native ranges,” said Columbus Zoo President/CEO Tom Stalf.

One thief gave new meaning to the word "brazen" late last night by committing a burglary in the last place you'd expect.

Police are on the lookout for a suspect who broke into a Clinton Township police cruiser over night, making off with a shotgun. The vehicle was parked at the police station at the time of the theft.

According to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, the Bureau of Criminal Investigations was called to the Clinton Township Police Department at 3820 Cleveland Avenue early this morning in response to the robbery.

Police say they are dusting for fingerprints and using a K9 dog to help identify a suspect. The ATF has also been notified about the situation.
