Gallo’s on High to open next month in Clintonville

Sarah Sole

Nick Gallo grew up stealing pastries from the pastry case at Giantonio’s Bakery, owned by his grandfather in Clintonville.

Now a seasoned business owner himself, Gallo is once again returning to Clintonville in the new year with the opening of his new venture, Gallo’s on High at 4215 N. High St.

“It’s very special to me to be a businessman in this town,” Gallo said.

The new restaurant represents a departure from Gallo’s other three establishments: He owns Gallo’s Tap Room in Powell and in Columbus on Olentangy River Road, as well as Gallo’s Kitchen and Bar in Upper Arlington.

While the tap rooms are sports bars and the Kitchen is an Italian-Creole combo, Gallo’s on High was designed to have more of a bistro flavor, Gallo said.

“This is a new concept for us,” he said.

The casual, upscale cuisine has Italian roots with a menu that includes pasta and seafood as well as small plates, sandwiches, and flatbread pizza.

“It’s kind of a little bit for everybody,” Gallo said.

While the new location represents the family’s return to Clintonville, Gallo said the venture was very much driven by his employees, some of whom have taken on managerial and operational leadership roles in the new eatery.

The plans were set in motion before the pandemic hit, and Gallo said he felt like he owed it to his employees to see it through.

“Our employees are our family,” he said.

Gallo’s on High will be open for dinner Tuesdays through Fridays and for brunch and dinner Saturdays and Sundays. For more information, visit their Facebook page
