Columbus, today is the day to celebrate that sweet frozen treat that melts in your mouth…and in your hand. So use a spoon for best results. Or a cone.

It’s National Ice Cream Day, and we’re going to help you plan accordingly.

Check out the top three winners in the Best Ice Cream category of ColumBEST, our annual poll in which we survey readers to find the best of everything from food to parks to comedy venues.

But for now, we’re keeping our eyes on the prize and running down local ice cream’s cream of the crop. Take a look below, and then be sure to add any of your favorites in the comments section.

Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams

Dear readers, this was your top choice, and you gave it 43.4% of your ColumBEST vote. This ice cream powerhouse has a cult following for a reason. Jeni’s unfailingly imaginative culinary concoctions continually push the envelope on how we think of ice cream. Now say that five times fast.

Graeter’s Ice Cream

Coming in at a close second with 41.7% of the vote, Graeter’s has been a mainstay in the state since Louis Charles Graeter sold his creations on the Cincinnati streets in 1870. They’ve since grown into a beloved frozen sweets staple.

Whit’s Frozen Custard

Coming in at third place with 14.9% of the vote, Whit’s undeniably holds a place in the hearts of Columbus ice cream lovers. This is also not the time to debate custard v. ice cream. We’re here for both!
