Suspect killed in frightening OSU-area robbery

The Bob Evans on Olentangy River Road was robbed over the weekend, resulting in the death of the suspect at the hands of an officer.

According to Columbus Police per 10TV, 34-year-old Joshua James Brown entered the back office of the restaurant around 7:30am Saturday wearing a hockey mask and armed with a handgun.

He reportedly demanded money from the manager, and hit her over the head with his gun as she tried to open the safe.

After several minutes, Brown exited out a back door without any cash, and was shot by Columbus Officer Jeffrey Miller, a 15-year veteran of the police force.

Brown was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Per protocol, Miller is on administrative leave pending an investigation into his actions in this shooting.

The Bob Evans manager was released from the hospital Saturday after being treated for minor injuries.

Police are still investigating whether or not the suspect had any previous connection to the restaurant, according to NBC4i.

10TV reports Brown’s criminal record includes eight years in prison on a drug and weapons conviction from 2005, and a harassment with a bodily substance conviction from 2014 that allegedly stemmed from him spitting on officers after an OVI arrest.
