This central Ohio festival features hot air balloon and helicopter rides

One sure way to combat COVID-related cabin fever is to soar effortlessly—several thousand feet in the air—through clear Ohio skies, taking in the world from a brand new perspective.

With the All Ohio Balloon Fest returning to Marysville on Aug. 12, 13, and 14, you’ll have more than a few chances to do just this.

Even though this year’s hot air balloon rides are already sold out, guests can still get air time in a number of different ways. For a fee, guests can take to the sky in a tethered hot air balloon, and rides by helicopter and bi-plane (a historical style of small aircraft) are also available. You can reserve your own airborne experience here.

For over 45 years, visitors across the Midwest have enjoyed the All Ohio Balloon Fest, billed as one of the largest events of its kind in the country. Held at the Union County Airport (at 1500 Weaver Rd. in Marysville), the festival’s unique backdrop and aerial action make it a standout summer adventure for everyone.

And if you’re more comfortable simply watching the different aircraft take off from the safety of the ground (an event itself), there’s still plenty for you to do.

The festival also boasts a 5K run/walk (the details of which are forthcoming), a laser light show, a kid-friendly science fair, plus a long list of vendors for you to get your fair food fix from, highlighted by favorites such as Graeter’s, Medallen’s (known across Ohio for their gyros), and Freyhof’s Funnel Cakes.

Did we mention the live music? Because there’s tons of it. Thursday and Friday nights will be headlined by country music acts Cole Swindell and Mitchell Tenpenny, respectively. Saturday, the Bon Jovi and Journey tribute band Bon Journey will be taking the stage. Make sure to check out the full list of musical entertainment, including opening acts.

The event requires tickets for admission and entertainment, which can be purchased ahead of time while you prepare for a weekend of fun on the ground and in the air.
