After considering permanent closure, this longstanding Columbus-area pizzeria has decided to remain open

Earlier this month, Mr. T’s Pizza–the Gahanna spot that has served the area for more than 30 years over multiple stints–was mulling a closure as early as Jan. 1, due in large part to staffing issues.

But now, fans of the longstanding spot can breathe a sigh of relief, because Mr. T’s announced they will remain open, according to a statement posted to the eatery’s social media accounts.

“Please bear with us as we work out the kinks to continue giving you the best product and service possible. We appreciate you all so much,” the statement reads.

Owner Jeff Armstrong told 614now earlier this month that the pizzeria would need to acquire three additional employees to remain open, and that they would need to accommodate the restaurant’s late hours.

“Our employees need to be able to work night shifts,” he said. “We’re connected to a bar, so we want to stay open as long as possible.”

Mr. T’s is currently open until midnight or 1 a.m. every day of the week.

One of the initial solutions Armstrong devised was to adjust the restaurant’s hours, or to close one or more days a week. He said that, for now at least, neither of these options will be necessary, although he hasn’t shut the door on them entirely.

He said Mr. T’s will operate on its regular schedule for now, although adjustments may be made in the near future.

Mr. T’s is located at 207 W. Johnstown Rd. in Gahanna. The pizzeria’s original location, which was also in Gahanna, shuttered in the early 2000s after remaining open for decades. Its new location opened in 2018.
