COVID case causes Mediterranean restaurant, and eatery run by owner’s daughter, to both close temporarily

Several positive cases of COVID-19 are responsible for the temporary closure of not just one, but two popular Mediterranean restaurants in the Columbus area.

Both Mazah Mediterranean Eatery—located at 1453 Grandview Ave.—and North Market Bridge Park’s Falafel Kitchen will both be closed until Dec. 6.

Mazah is owned by longtime Columbus chef Maggie Ailabouni, and Falafel Kitchen by her daughter, Katy Ailabouni. The Ailabounis noted that there is overlap in both restaurants, though, and both are a family affair.

According to a post made to Mazah’s social media accounts, family members the Ailabounis were exposed to recently contracted COVID, and as a precaution both eateries will remain closed until next week.

“A few of our family members have contracted covid through the holidays. We will be taking a rest and closing until December 6th, to both ensure the care of our family members and the wellbeing of our staff & friends,” the statement said. “This means that we will also have to temporarily close our family’s branch restaurant, Falafel Kitchen, until we can guarantee that our risk of being contagious passes.”
