Don’t sleep on this local P.B. out later this month

Jenny Kuzmic was never happy with store-bought peanut butter, so as an OSU undergrad, she decided to make her own.

“People always asked why I didn’t sell my peanut butter, but I just never felt like it was the right time to start a business,” Kuzmic said.

Kuzmic had her peanut butter, but she just needed two more ingredients to make her business a reality. This past Christmas, her boyfriend came up with a business name, Peanut Butter & Jenny. And Kuzmic’s sister, Kelsey Dober, used her architecture background to produce sample design and packaging.

“My creativity in the kitchen and her knack for design created the perfect blend for Peanut Butter & Jenny to come to life,” Kuzmic said.

Now, the sisters will launch Peanut Butter & Jenny May 23. The peanut butter, produced at 1400 Food Lab in Grandview, is available in 16-ounce jars as well as a sample set of two-ounce mini jars.

There’s Simply Salted, Bear Hug (a cinnamon and honey variety), and White Chocolate Pretzel, and Kuzmic said she plans to incorporate seasonal varieties as well.

“We keep our ingredient list as clean as we can, meaning there’s no added oils or unnecessary sugars,” Kuzmic said.

Another mark of Kuzmic’s scratch-made butter is its consistency.

“Leaving it a room temp creates a super creamy texture that’s incredibly easy to spread, while storing it in the fridge creates a firmer peanut butter perfect for digging into with a spoon,” Kuzmic said.

You can find the peanut butter at their website, as well as at the Pickerington Farmers Market from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursdays from June to September. Peanut Butter & Jenny will also be at the North Market Downtown Farmers Market June 12, July 3, Aug. 7, Sept. 4, and Oct. 2.
