Gallicchio’s Perfect Pies, a Monthly Review: Adriatico’s New York Style Pizza

Born and raised in Columbus, Mike Gallicchio is first and foremost an entrepreneur. You might be familiar with some of his work. He’s owner of the Columbus Food Truck Festival, Columbus Wine Festival, and Columbus Fiery Foods Festival, as well as a food truck fabrication company, Titan Trucks. His father (Pops) is the real pizza connoisseur of Columbus—He owned several Domino’s Pizza franchises. Once he was old enough, though, Gallicchio spent many a night makin’ pies and traveling from store to store proofing dough and slapping sauce. While he’s since eked out a living in a different part of Columbus’ cuisine scene, Gallicchio’s love for all things pizza has remained, and searching out perfect pies is something he’s passionate about. Every month, you can count on Gallicchio to share one of his favorite pizza places. Will it be one of your own favorites, or a new place to try?

Adriatico’s New York Style Pizza

Pizza for breakfast rating: 5

To say I lived off Adriatico’s Pizza while I attended college would be an understatement. Adriatico’s Pizza at 2 a.m. and/or for breakfast was a staple while I attended THE Ohio State University. I’m not saying Adriatico’s wasn’t good for lunch or dinner, I’m just commenting on my lifestyle at that time.  Oh, the memories Adriatico’s Pizza conjures!

Adriatico’s Pizza has been serving their good-to-the-last-bite of pizza for 38 years. The restaurant is very clean, with COVID precautions in place. Service is always on point. There is one location in Columbus, located on the OSU campus. Although I prefer their Sicilian style, their regular crust pizza is tasty as well. They have a slew of specialty pizzas to choose from, but for me, being a pizza traditionalist, I prefer my Adriatico’s pizza simply with pepperoni, mushroom, and black olives.

Adriatico’s uses extra-large pepperoni, which covers the pizza, and they serve fresh mushrooms, which is a plus. I also prefer the Sicilian because I love Adriatico’s thick and crispy crust. The perfect amount of rich sauce goes on their pies, with plenty of cheese.

I still try to include a trip to Adriatico’s while on my many pizza journeys. The Pizza is great, and my family loves it too.

If you do order the Sicilian from Adriatico’s, make sure you get the large or the huge so you have plenty of leftover pizza for that late night snack and of course my favorite time to eat pizza, breakfast.

Pizza on!
